Which Silicon Valley SUV is king? The new 2026 Lucid Gravity dukes it out against the refreshed Tesla Model X.
The Tesla Model X ($99,990) has been a popular choice for drivers seeking a three-row electric SUV. Now in its tenth model year, the Model X receives minor updates for 2026 in an effort to keep the gull-winged SUV fresh and competitive.
But are these changes enough? The all-new 2026 Lucid Gravity positions itself as a next-generation SUV that challenges Tesla on nearly every metric — range, efficiency, charging speed, acceleration, interior space, and value. We look at the most relevant specs for performance electric SUVs and see how these two rivals stack up.
driving range
With an EV, a long driving range equates to freedom — the ability to roam and explore without worry. The 2026 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring simply offers more of it, with up to 450 miles of range compared to the 352 miles you get in the 2026 Tesla Model X All-Wheel Drive (EPA-estimated).
The Lucid’s superior range is enabled not just by a higher capacity battery (123 kWh) compared to the Tesla’s (100 kWh), but also through superior efficiency. Lucid’s engineers left no stone unturned to minimize aerodynamic and drivetrain losses in their new SUV. The higher energy efficiency provides cascading benefits — allowing you to travel further, at a lower cost per mile, while minimizing the amount of time spent charging.
charging speed
When it is finally time to charge, the Lucid Gravity can accept electrons more quickly than any vehicle for sale in the US, at a maximum rate of 400 kW. This is possible because of the Gravity’s advanced 926V electrical architecture. By comparison, Tesla’s Model X uses a lower voltage 400V architecture that tops out at 250 kW when charging.
The result is that the 2026 Lucid Gravity can add up to 200 miles of range in under 11 minutes. Whereas a Tesla Model X takes 31 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent, the Gravity needs just 23 minutes according to independent testing. Faster charging allows for seamless, stress-free road trips.
Both the Gravity and Model X use the North American Charging Standard (NACS), enabling drivers of both vehicles to plug-and-charge reliably at Tesla Supercharger stations without the need for an adapter.
Acceleration
The 2026 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring delivers 828 horsepower through dual electric motors, enabling a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. A comparably-priced dual-motor 2026 Tesla Model X All-Wheel Drive delivers 670 horsepower and a slightly slower 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds.
Both SUVs are incredibly quick and provide more power than a driver will likely need. However, the Lucid’s superior power density, from its more compact and lightweight motors, reflects the next generation of EV engineering and design that the older Tesla architecture cannot match.
interior and cargo room
A big reason why people buy SUVs is space and practicality.
While the Lucid Gravity and Tesla Model X have a similar exterior footprint (lengths of 198.2 inches and 199.1 inches, respectively), the Gravity offers far more room inside, with space for up to seven adults to ride in comfort along with all their gear. Thanks to a cavernous cargo area and useful front trunk, the Gravity fits strollers, sports equipment, and luggage even with the third row of seats in place.
By contrast, the Tesla’s optional third row is best suited for children, and its maximum cargo volume is considerably smaller than the Lucid’s.
Pricing and Leasing
As of this post, the 2026 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring starts at $94,900, while the 2026 Tesla Model X All-Wheel Drive starts at $99,990. Both vehicles have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of over 6,000 pounds, which may be beneficial to business owners seeking potential tax deductions.
