A Leasehackr reader recently asked the community whether it makes sense to make lease payments with a rewards credit card.
The short answer is that captive finance companies do not accept credit cards as a form of payment for the monthly lease. For the initial drive-off costs (e.g., first payment, registration, and fees), most dealers do accept credit cards. You can ask the maximum amount they allow.
But we generally do not recommend putting a large down payment on a lease, as those upfront costs could be the lost if the vehicle were totaled in a collision.
The conversation then evolved into whether to buy or lease a Porsche Macan. The short answer? It is hands down better to buy — as the lease money factor from Porsche Financial Services is a whopping .00250, equivalent to 6% APR.
